The main objective of this exchange is for NTU students and YSF students to meet each other and learn, share, and embrace each other’s culture, tradition, heritage, and values in a way that forges mutual understanding and fosters global citizenry. The University Scholars Program of Nanyang Technological University is a multi-disciplinary undergraduate program comprised of top students from Singapore that aims to provide not only a unique, liberal arts curriculum, but also with a large global focus, actively promoting international citizenship through experiences abroad. All of their first-year students (totaling about 55 – 60) enroll in a course, Fieldwork and Documentation, that brings them to different countries not only to conduct research projects from a social science perspective but also to fully immerse themselves in a new culture. Affectionately known as TOPS (Travel Overseas Programme for Scholars), the week-long trip for this upcoming academic year will take place in mid-December of 2017 and they plan to take students to Yangon and Inle Lake. In previous years, they have paired with youth organizations to give a unique and highly valuable experience of interacting with local youths. Their students have found the interaction with local students to be a wonderful and meaningful component of the trip.
