Description:

Are you a young teacher who wants to improve your teaching and lesson planning skills? Do you also want to learn more advanced teaching methods so that you can incorporate 21st-century skills into your lessons effectively?

Teach for ASEAN is here with the second series of “Teacher Trainee Workshops”. Our goal is to develop the teaching capabilities of passionate teachers in Myanmar, who can go on to build effective lessons that inspire great learning in classrooms. Pre-Intermediate level of English ability required as the course will be conducted in English.

At the end of the workshop, you will receive a Certificate of Participation from Teach for ASEAN.

About the Trainer
Wendy Choo is a Ph.D student at the University of Auckland and is in Myanmar to conduct her research. She has 10 years of high school teaching experience in Singapore and has taught English as a Foreign Language in Laos, Singapore and New Zealand. In her former role as the Head of Department in her school, she has conducted workshops for teachers, as well as mentored beginning teachers.

  • Essential Teaching Series: Active Learning – 18 March, Sunday (9-12PM)

    • Aim
      This course aims to help participants better engage students in the learning of English. Participants will be introduced to strategies that encourage students to take an active, engaged part in the learning process and experience the strategies for themselves. Participants will have the opportunity to work in teams to brainstorm ideas that can make the textbook exercises come alive in the classroom.

    • At the end of the course, you will be able to:
      1) Understand the key principles of active learning
      2) Apply active learning strategies to engage students in the learning of English
      3) Reflect on the value of active learning for their classrooms

    • Course Content
      1) Principles of active learning
      2) Active learning strategies and techniques
      3) Managing an engaged class

    • Who is this for?
      Young teachers who are interested in teaching English but with little or zero experience. Pre-intermediate level of English required as course will be fully conducted in English.
  • Advanced Teaching Series: Making Thinking Visible – 18 March, Sunday (2-5PM)

    • Aim
      This course aims to help participants integrate the development of students’ critical thinking with content learning across subject matters. Participants will be introduced to visible thinking routines that extend and deepen students’ thinking, so that critical thinking becomes part of everyday classroom life. Participants will have the opportunity to work in teams to integrate visible thinking routines into their lessons. They will also be able to experience the visible thinking for themselves.

    • At the end of the course, you will be able to:
      1) Understand the importance of making thinking visible
      2) Select and apply suitable thinking routines based on the targeted type of thinking they seek to develop with their students
      3) Reflect on the value of making thinking visible for their classrooms

    • Course Content
      1) Background to thinking routines
      2) Types of thinking routines
      3) Integrating thinking routines into lessons

    • Who is this for?
      Experienced teachers seeking to develop students’ critical thinking
