Description : The Alphawood Scholarships programme is part of the Southeast Asian Art Academic Programme. The programme aims to make a significant and positive impact on the understanding and preservation of ancient to pre-modern Buddhist and Hindu art and architecture in the Southeast Asia region. These scholarships are for the following eligible programmes: MA History of Art and Archaeology, MA Religious Arts of Asia, Postgraduate Asian Art Course Certificate in Buddhist Art (running next in April 2018) or Southeast Asian Art (running next in April 2019) and Postgraduate Diploma in Asian Art (a combination of three modules).
-Normally be resident in one of the these countries: Brunei, Cambodia, East Timor, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar/Burma, Singapore, Thailand or Vietnam.
-Alphawood Scholarships are available for a range of postgraduate programmes in the Department of the History of Art and Archaeology at SOAS.

Benefits : The Alphawood Scholarships cover Scholars’ SOAS tuition fees in full, including fees for the MPhil/PHD, MA, Postgraduate Diploma or Postgraduate Certificate programmes to which Scholars are accepted, as well as for English Language and Academic Studies (ELAS) courses to which Scholars may be assigned to strengthen English-language proficiency. The Alphawood Scholarship also includes a generous, pro rata maintenance allowance towards the costs of living and studying in central London, as well as flights to and from the UK at the start and end of the programme. Visa costs, IELTS for UKVI examination costs and any requisite health checks that are required for visa purposes will also be reimbursed to Scholars on arrival in the UK. Please note that the maintenance allowance will be provided in line with the Arts & Humanities Research Council (AHRC) guidelines for London (Doctoral) and will be calculated pro rata for programmes of less than a year. It is expected to cover the cost of accommodation.

-For an MPhil/PhD, please complete the Postgraduate Research online application form (you will be asked to set up an account and upload documents using our online admissions system). Please read our Guidance for applying for MPhil/PhD carefully before you start your application.
*You should use the Personal Statement section in your application form to demonstrate your interest in ancient to pre-modern Buddhist and/or Hindu Southeast Asian art and/or architecture. Please also demonstrate your intention to pursue employment, teaching, further study or otherwise make a positive impact on the preservation or advancement of ancient to pre-modern Buddhist and/or Hindu Southeast Asian art and/or architecture in the region after your studies at SOAS.
*STEP 2 Apply for an Alphawood Scholarship:
